Clay Brett’s Plan to Keep West U the Best Place to Live in Texas

01

Supporting West U Families

  • Clay established the West U Family Board to provide a direct voice for parents and children in city government and will continue to listen to parents and their children
  • Continuing support for Tri-Sports capital projects and ongoing operational support
  • Implementing proposed safety improvements at key intersections on Buffalo Speedway and Weslayan while collaborating with the City of Houston to enhance pedestrian and vehicle safety at Academy & Bissonnet and University & Kirby.

02

Investing in the Future of West U

  • Leading the City’s efforts on major infrastructure projects:
    • Saving taxpayers millions of dollars by having the courage to reject a single bid for the wastewater treatment plant upgrades, using market competition to lower the project’s cost.
    • Modernizing water infrastructure to achieve water independence.
    • Coordinating with state and federal efforts to repair Poor Farm Ditch with new green screen for affected homes and advance the Westside Drainage Project in proportion to the scope of flooding issues.
    • Enhancing property values and improving quality of life for children and seniors through the revitalization of the community building and library.
  • Upgraded the City’s financial planning framework to align with institutional investment standards for better fiscal responsibility.

03

Strengthening Public Safety

  • I support expanding police resources and manpower to increase patrols and enable faster analysis of Virtual Gate data for enhanced security.

04

A Sustainable, Green West U

  • Advancing Recycling Board initiatives to improve energy and water efficiency in West U buildings and optimize waste collection services.

05

Your vote on the Civic Center

  • Giving citizens the opportunity to shape West U’s future through a public vote on the Civic Center bond initiative—an investment that will modernize our community spaces while enhancing green space.

Why I Support Proposition D Library and Community Center

West U residents are distinguished by their high standards, and we have a great opportunity to meet those standards with Prop D. The current Civic Center area, currently serviced by Public Works and water infrastructure, is not pedestrian-friendly, has an industrial feel, and does not serve the community well. This outdated layout not only limits access to community resources but also depresses nearby property values. The library has problems that would be funny if they weren’t so sad: group read-along occurs in the Scout House, and we hear you can’t run two vacuums in the library without shorting out the fuse! The Facilities Master Plan will revitalize the area, turning it into a hub for all residents to enjoy.

The proposal has sparked public discussion, both in favor and against. There are thoughtful folks on both sides. I view this as an opportunity for West U residents to shape the city’s future, just as past generations did, by investing in parks, public buildings, and recreational facilities.

This transformation is not simply a luxury—it is a necessity. Without the Facilities Master Plan:

01

The Civic Center will sit empty and neglected, as Public Works moves out, leaving a blighted, underutilized space in the heart of West U.

02

The Fire Department remains constrained, unable to expand due to a lack of available space.

03

Police officers will continue working in inadequate conditions, with some operating out of storage closets.

04

The library will remain too small, forcing group readings for kids to take place a quarter mile away at the Scout House.

Ultimately, West U residents must decide what kind of community they want to live in, and it starts with the library and community center. The current facilities are cramped, outdated, and fail to meet the needs of modern families. Parents have referred to the children’s reading area of the library as a “sad place”— this is not the standard of living West U is known for.

The Facilities Master Plan ensures that taxpayer dollars go toward creating a modern, thriving Civic Center that enhances West U’s quality of life. This vote gives residents the power to determine West U’s future—one that reflects the high standards our community expects and deserves.

The City of West University Place will hold its General Election to elect a Mayor and 4 Council Members on Saturday, May 3, 2025. In addition, West U voters will have the opportunity to vote on Propositions A, B, and C regarding amendments to the City’s Charter, and Proposition D regarding the issuance of bonds for the construction of a new Community Center, Senior Center, and Library Building and Community Open Space improvements.
