Clay Brett is a nine-year West U resident, an attorney, investor, and dedicated public servant. He lives in West U with his wife, Lindsay, and their two children, ages six and four. He believes in strong governance, fiscal responsibility, and making sure West U remains the best place to raise a family.

Brett is a partner at Baker Botts, Houston’s oldest law firm, where he leads a high-stakes transactional practice. He advises fund sponsors, investors, financial institutions, and sovereign nations on multi-billion-dollar investments and long-term capital projects. His expertise in capital markets, governance, and complex deal structuring makes him one of the leading private investment attorneys in Texas.

Before joining Baker Botts, Brett was a partner and investment principal at Millennial Energy Partners, where he led investment strategy, risk management, and deal structuring for affiliated funds. Prior to that, he served as General Counsel for an upstream portfolio company operating in the STACK play of Oklahoma.

Brett holds a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was on the Dean’s List and edited the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. He earned his B.A. in Economics with honors from the University of Florida and is admitted to practice law in Texas.

As a West U City Councilmember, Brett has focused on modernizing city finances, improving public safety, and making responsible infrastructure investments. He helped create the West U Family Board, giving parents direct input in city decisions. He co-sponsored pedestrian safety improvements that will make the Buffalo Speedway and Weslayan crossings safer for families and seniors. He has also been a strong advocate for Tri-Sports, our beautiful parks and other programs that make West U a great place to live.

Brett has led efforts to invest in water infrastructure, drainage systems, and major civic projects, ensuring that West U remains financially strong, well-managed, and focused on the future. His leadership is about getting things done, making smart investments, and keeping West U the best place to live in Texas.
